BREAKING: Suspect arrested, victim identified in West Mobile apartment murder – WKRG

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – UPDATE 12:55 am:   

Mobile Police have arrested the suspect in a murder at the Dickens Ferry Apartments.

Kenneth Smith, 25, was booked overnight into Mobile Metro Jail on a murder charge.

Investigators say Smith was taken into custody at Providence Hospital where his girlfriend, 21-year-old Angelisha Jones, was taken after she was shot.

A woman shot at an apartment complex off Old Shell Road in mobile has died. Police tell News Five they have the suspect in custody.

Mobile Police are not releasing the name of the suspect they have in custody nor are they releasing the name of the woman who has died.

We spoke with a neighbor who told News Five she was surprised this happened in her normally quiet apartment complex.

Jessica Davis says, “Been here 15 months and I ain’t never seen anything like this before.”

Davis lives at the Dickens Ferry Apartments off of Old Shell Road. She tells us she was watching TV earlier Wednesday afternoon when she heard people outside her door.

Davis says, “I heard some commotion outside like people talking and I came outside to see what was going on. Then I came out here and just seen everybody walking down that way.”

Davis tells News Five initially she had no idea what was going on. She says, “I heard somebody talking on their cellphone that somebody over here had gotten shot.” 

According to Mobile Police, a woman was shot at the apartment complex earlier this afternoon – that woman has since died. Police tell us they have the suspect in custody. Davis says she was shocked when she found out. She says, “I just like ran down here and seen what was going on.”

Police responded to the Dickens Ferry Apartments on Dickens Ferry Road off Old Shell late Wednesday afternoon. 

According to Mobile Police, a woman was shot and brought to Providence Hospital. Police say she was reportedly shot in the shoulder, but it is unknown which shoulder. 

Police confirmed around 6:15 p.m. that the victim died. 

Mobile Police say they have a suspect in custody.
