WhatsApp rolls out two new features for its iOS users. Out of the two — one feature will allow users to watch a YouTube video within the messaging app, while the second feature let users to lock a voice recording. The features have already started reaching the users, however, not everyone must have got it, as WhatsApp, it seems is rolling them out in a phased manner. As of now, both the features are available only for the iOS users with the latest version of WhatsApp. So, to get these features on your iPhone — you should upgrade your app to the latest version, which is — iOS 2.17.81.
After we tried to upgrade the WhatsApp app on our iPhone, we did get the feature to lock voice recordings; however, the YouTube feature is nowhere to be seen. Probably, chances are that WhatsApp is rolling out the YouTube feature in a phased manner, and if you haven’t received the feature, even after upgrading your app to the latest version, you need not worry, as you may get the new feature in the next couple of hours or days.
Now, let’s take a look at how the two new features work. First coming to the voice recording lock feature, as the name suggests, with this feature you can actually lock the voice recording so you don’t need to record a voice message without holding the button down. How does this feature work? All you need to do is hold the recording button, and swipe it upwards to lock the recording, and after you’re done with it, you can simply click on the arrow icon to send the message, or cancel it. Note: This feature is available only for users with the iOS 2.17.81 WhatsApp version.
Explaining this feature, WhatsApp notes, “Want to easily record long Voice Messages? When recording a Voice Message, just swipe up to lock recording so you can continue to record without keeping your finger down,”
Reports are that the new version of the WhatsApp application also brings the YouTube feature onboard. In simple words, you can watch a YouTube video within the application. For instance, if a friend sends you a YouTube video – with this new feature you can watch the video on the app – which means WhatsApp will no longer direct you to the YouTube app for you to watch the video. By introducing this feature – WhatsApp possibly is aiming at maximum consumer engagement on the platform itself.
Explaining this feature, WhatsApp notes, “When you receive a link to a YouTube video, you can now play it right within WhatsApp. With picture-in-picture, you can also keep watching the video while you navigate to another chat,” the App Store description reads.
This YouTube feature is reportedly available for users with the latest iOS 2.17.81. version. But, then, that doesn’t seem to be the case. On upgrading our iPhone to the latest version, we didn’t get the feature yet. Well, chances are that the WhatsApp is rolling out the feature in a phased manner – and you’ll get the app eventually – probably in the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, reports are also such that WhatsApps is preparing to bring another feature with which a user will be able to switch between voice and video calls simultaneously.
